For my photography class final project, I had to shadow a photographer in the field I’d like to be in one day. I chose Jeff Dietz, from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. I focused on his fashion and portrait photography. Part of the assignment was to apply the techniques I learned from him. This is Shauna Mulligan, my model for trying out Dietz’s style. I was very pleased with my first attempt. I never really thought that hard about light before, and I plan on using natural light to my advantage from now on.
We roamed Center City Philadelphia, literally chasing the sun, searching for those shadows Dietz told me to look out for. Later on that evening, my fellow photographer Walbert Young whipped out his extra lights and we played with them in Rittenhouse Square.
What kind of lights did Walbert have?
That’s a good question I’ll have to get back to you on that.
Two Nikon SB-80’s with a couple of Pocket Wizards. I had a reflector umbrella on one for the subjects, and I shot bare for the one on the statue. I had a couple of different gels, too.
